Coordination Meeting of County Operational Centers

With co-operation with Sibenik-Knin County ATRAC organized and held “The 3rd Co-ordination Meeting of County Operational Centers for the improvement of preparedness and response to oil spills”.

Co-ordination was held from 9 to 10 June 2021 in Sibenik, bringing together the members of Operational Centers of all Croatian`s coastal Counties. Like the previous two, this Coordination edition was supported by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure.

The Coordination was opened with a welcome speech by the Director of the Adriatic Training and Research Centre Mr. Vedran Martinić. A very warm welcome message for participants was held by the host’s representative Ms. Iris Ukić Kotarac, Deputy Prefect of Sibenik-Knin County and Captain Siniša Orlić, Director of the Maritime Safety Directorate of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure.

After the introductory speeches, the representatives of County Operational Centers gave reports on the activities and cases during the year 2020.

The key topic of this year’s Coordination was the development of a new National Contingency Plan. Captain Siniša Orlić presented the first draft of the National Plan, with particular attention to the novelties that are planned to be introduced concerning the existing Plan.

As part of the afternoon Coordination program, ATRAC`s representatives presented their experiences of the Lebanon spill in which ATRAC was involved in March this year.

On the second day of the Coordination, a visit to St Anthony`s Channel, a protected area and a very demanding navigation area. The voyage through the Channel ended with a tour of St Nicholas` Fortress, a site protected by UNESCO. The City of Sibenik is one of a few cities with two UNESCO-protected sites – the Cathedral of St. James and the mentioned St Nicholas` Fortress.
