The ALIENA project, of which the CMCC is a project partner, organises the webinar “Evaluation of the Environmental Status of Italian Marine Waters in Relation to Non-Indigenous Species within the Marine Strategy Framework Directive” will be led by Dr. Silvia Livi from the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), who will deliver an in-depth presentation on marine monitoring under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), with a focus on the national assessment of Descriptor D2.

This webinar offers an opportunity to:

  • Gain insights into the monitoring and evaluation of non-indigenous species in the Mediterranean
  • Exchange perspectives relevant to the ALIENA project
  • Deepen understanding of alien species’ impacts on marine ecosystems

Project ALIENA, aims to create a shared knowledge base and a collaborative monitoring system to protect Adriatic Sea biodiversity from Non-Indigenous Species (NIS).

Through joint monitoring and modelling efforts focused on these species, the project seeks to:

  • Develop early warning solutions for effective marine management.
  • Contribute to biodiversity conservation and public health protection.
  • Improve shared protocols for NIS detection, monitoring and management.
  • Increase stakeholder awareness of NIS-related challenges.
