“Sea 2020” – Exercise held in Zadar County

On September 23rd and 24th 2020, ATRAC organized a two-day workshop in cooperation with the Zadar County Operational Centre, which included an exercise at sea.

On the first day, we had a preparatory meeting for the exercise that was held on the next day, ATRAC presented the most important cases of pollution this year, and representatives of the Development Agency ZADRA NOVA presented the activities of the PEPSEA project related to the procurement of equipment for Zadar County. On the second day, the exercise “Sea 2020” was held. Its aim was testing the alert systems and incident management system in Zadar county, as well as mobilization and deployment of equipment available in that area. ATRAC’s role was that of the monitoring body, and the exercise was also attended by the Zadar County Operational Centre, Harbor Masters Office in Zadar, Marine Police Zadar and company Ciklon d.o.o., whose resources were used in response operations.

The managing team recorded chronologically all the decisions, actions and communication during the exercise, and all these actions were brought out in real-time. We used popcorn in the exercise to simulate the behaviour of oil on the sea surface.

The exercise was carried out successfully with some quality observations, comments and suggestions for improving the preparedness and response system of Zadar County.
